You’ll notice as you log into Xbox LIVE that there is an console update. The flash contains a minor code change to prepare for future growth of the service. There will be no immediate or noticeable changes to the interface or services for Xbox LIVE or the Xbox 360.

We just sent word out to the media with our take on this month’s US NPD numbers. Some highlights:
Consumers continue to make the ultimate vote for Xbox 360 as the console of choice by investing $9.4 billion to date this lifecycle in the Xbox 360 experience, far outpacing that of other game consoles. (March NPD data)
March NPD data shows a new U.S. Xbox 360 software attach rate of 7.5, a record for any game console.
In Europe, Xbox 360 continues to enjoy the highest software attach rate of any game console with more than 7.0 games sold per console (PS3: 3.8; Wii 3.5) after 27 months on the market.
Xbox 360 sales in Europe have more than doubled in the wake of recent retail price changes, solidifying its leadership position as the number one next-generation console in EMEA, owning 42% of the market in terms of life-to-date revenue. (Microsoft [...]

We will be heading to Monolith, a development studio here in Washington, in a week or two. The guys at Monolith have developed games like Condemned, Condemned 2, FEAR, Aliens vs. Predator 2, and a slew of other games.
They are currently hard at work on Project Origin which looks to be pretty scary, and quite good.
We hope to spend some time with the development team, and rather than our team hogging all their time, we thought we’d ask them YOUR questions. (Well, that and Nelson wants to ask them why they haven’t yet made a painting simulation game where the “A” button summons an otter to bring you black jellybeans - no one wants that answer.)
To have your question potentially asked to the fine folks at Monolith, and recorded for all to see, leave it in the comments on this very blog post.

It’s a hectic time here on the Gamerscore Community team. We’re preparing for the arrival of 30+ Xbox and Games for Windows MVPs next week, so it’s been crazy (although in fairness Sara’s been doing most of the heavy lifting).
In our hectic state I forgot to mention that Forza 2 has dropped in price to $29.99 MSRB (USD). If you haven’t yet picked it up, now may be a good time to do it.
I have had a lot of fun with this game, and a little birdie told me that if you do a racing career, sim all the races instead of manually racing them, you will have an easier time getting all the achievement points.

More in game audio! Elizabeth at 2K Games heard me talking about how I want to post more game audio on my site. Thanks to her, I have a little bit of BioShock audio to share with you. These are nice clean audio files, taken directly from the digital master files used to create the game. The files includes my personal favorite: audio from the vending machine. Longtime listeners of my show will recognize who puts the voice and attitude in said machine

If you ask certain people on our team, they will tell you that I am a pretty harsh critic. I have one nice thing to say for every three negatives. It’s interesting because even the work that I produce here at work doesn’t live up to my unrealistic quality bar.
Advertising is an even more tricky subject for me because I have such a narrow-minded view of what I want to be sold, and how it should be presented to me. I want to be entertained by ads, I don’t want to be given information in a dull, humorless manner. I want to be able to relate to the people or situation that I’m watching, I don’t want to feel forced, or fake.
I am happy to point to some Xbox 360 ads that after watching I said, “That was pretty decent. It was funny, informative, and I could relate.” I remember [...]

When we shipped the dashboard update in December, we added the ability to enter your name, location and a bio in the dashboard. I am happy to announce that starting today, you can now edit those field on Xbox.com. To add or edit this information, sign in to Xbox.com then go to Manage Profile then click Edit Personal Profile . This page has a place to edit those three fields directly in your browser. Much easier, huh?

A co-worker, Staci, forwarded over a post she found while on one of her favorite blogs, Design*Sponge. I’m not sure if I love it because it makes me feel like less of a geek, or if it’s just to remind me that there’s more to the InterWebs than the videogame community. Either way, I especially like seeing people like my friends and family (the non-gaming variety) pick up an Xbox 360 controller or guitar, and feel a bit of the same joy I get from blasting a dinosaur in Turok or getting a royal flush in Poker Smash.
From Design*Sponge:
rock band + chocolate buttercream cake + friends = a great time. this has nothing to do with design, but this video game has occupied so much of my personal time lately that i had to share a few scenes from ac’s 31st birthday party on saturday. if you’re into video games or music [...]
