The Xbox 360 console team has a bunch of details on what’s coming in the Update next week, details on the video support we’re adding, and there’s also a complete list of features on Xbox.com.
I’m also told that while the European and Canadian Video Stores announced at E3 didn’t launch with the Fall Update, everyone remains committed to launching the service this year, and more information will be released soon.

In addition to the list of new dashboard features that were announced today, there are a few more that were not included in the press release that I think may be of interest to some longtime blog readers. After the update, there will be two new choices in the account management section of the dashboard: The ability to change the Windows LIVE ID associated with and Xbox LIVE account. The description pretty much says it all, but choosing this option changes the Windows Live ID associated with your Xbox LIVE account. It will also transfer all your Microsoft points to the new Windows Live ID as well. Here are some screen shots that show what this looks like in the dash.

Go ahead and say I’m biased, but Xbox LIVE is the best online service for a console, period. They say the proof is in the pudding, so enjoy a giant bowl of delicious Xbox LIVE pudding as we talk about some of the new features in the Fall Update.
While we have already talked about the new Parental Timer, Games on Demand, and the Friends of Friends features, the lovely and talented Nelson Rodriguez has put together a video featuring the lovely and talented Tony and Chris to talk about some of the new features. The video shows the beta version, so expect some visual changes for the actual launch.
For those of you that prefer “reading”, here are some of the details:

I just got a press release that outlines a cool new feature in the upcoming Fall dashboard update that is due out on December 4th. The new feature allows you to see who is on someone’s friends list. This is particularly useful for looking up old friends, or for doing clan management. And even though the service isn’t live yet, you can manage your privacy settings before the update at www.xbox.com/fof.
For all of the details, check out the full media alert.

The Mass is in Effect y’all!
I’ve really been dying to say that…
Mass Effect is (officially) on sale today at a fine retailer near you or on the interwebs. If you haven’t bought it yet, get to it and then call in sick for the next couple of days. Just think, you could have a full six days of gaming glory with only the obligitory break for a turkey-induced nap. If you’re still on the fence on whether or not to buy Mass Effect here is some food for thought: it has currently received 4 perfect scores out of 17 reviews on Gamerankings.com and over half of the reviews are 95% or above. And if that wasn’t enough, you also have my personal endorsement that this game rules.
You can read the full press release here.

This week, John and Tony are away, so Nelson and I have free reign MUHAHAHA!
We did a little different recording, this was a straight shot, no editing, talk for 30-35 minutes and then stop. Let us know how you like it as it was INCREDIBLY easy on me to edit it - just add music. An unfortunate side-effect is that there are no outros this week.
Also, with the new Zune Client currently unable to edit metadata tags *ahem*, I had to do it elsewhere, I apologize if our tags are now screwed up - let us know if anyone has issues.

This week marks the fifth anniversary of Xbox LIVE!
When LIVE first launched in November of 2002, things like voice communication, friends lists, and a single name for gamers were new concepts, and tying them all together was absolutely unheard of. One of the problems that I always had as a gamer back in the olden days was knowing what names your friends ended up with for a particular game (curse all of you that have stolen “Malt Liquor” from me!). Now you can easily keep track of your friends to what they’re playing, and can have a seamless voice chat without setting up a separate server or installing extra software.
From its humble beginnings of a few of games in two countries, Xbox LIVE now delivers games, TV shows, movies, and music to over 8 million members in 26 countries and in 9 languages. That is huge for only 5 years.
And to top it all [...]

We’re back! Nelson will be arriving Monday to bring great justice to our podcast, but for this week you are stuck with us. We’re going to be trying to look into the future 1 week so that if I continue to edit these shows late, and get them up on Friday, you guys still find it pertinent.
For those who have Spike TV, the show Game Head will be having a heaping slice of Mass Effect including a HAWT sizzle trailer (Semsey told me to spell hot like that). The show is on tonight (Friday) at 1am!
