Nelson and I took a short trip down to Pop Cap (which is literally 10-15 minutes from work) and had a chance to talk to VP of Platforms (and Xbox Alumni) Greg Canessa.
He was generous to answer some questions given to him by the community. It’s sort of like Voltron where to get the full robot interview you need to visit all the different sites and watch the pieces.
Big shout-out to the fine folks at Pop Cap Games for their hospitality.

We had a few extra minutes, so we thought that we’d ask Greg a few questions from the Gamerscore Team.

It’s no secret that I LOVE turn-based strategy games, so when I first played this week’s XBLA title Commanders: Attack of the Genos I got a little giddy.
Commanders is a turn-based tactical strategy game supporting 15 single-player campaing missions, 4 player multiplayer over LIVE (2 player local play), and pretty sweet graphics. It costs 800 ms points, and will be arriving on Wednesday, February 13th.
I had the chance to talk to Terry Coleman a Producer at Sierra Online about the game. I cannot wait until Wednesday!
Shoutout to Terry Coleman, and Kevin Vlaming over at Sierra Online for all their help. Check out the game’s official website for more details.

This week, we have two arcade offerings for you - Commanders: Attack of the Genos and Discs of Tron.
Commanders is a turn-based strategy game where you fight alongside a - you guessed it - commander to protect your territory as well as trying to take out your enemies. With missile launchers, bombers and infantry, this Sierra Online game is sure to be a blast (blast - get it? ha ha! Ok, nevermind - Seriously, though, the game looks awesome.)
Also, keep your eye on this space as Chris gets together with Terry Coleman from Sierra Online to walk you through some of the gameplay.
The game will be available worldwide (with the exception of Japan and Korea) for 800 Microsoft Points and is rated E10+ by the ESRB.
As well as Commanders, we have Discs of Tron for you. This blast from the past allows you to play as Tron as [...]

In honor of the shopping madness that is just four days away, we are running a three-for-one news special today without the need to be at a store at 5am. It’s because we care.
First and foremost, we have just announced that there were be a Halo 3 map pack releasing on December 11th. From the media alert:
Available for 800 Microsoft Points exclusively on Xbox LIVE Marketplace, each map presents a totally different play style. Standoff’s symmetrical valley, with its entrenched bases and fields of boulders is ideal for mid-sized objective and Slayer game types, while Rat’s Nest’s vast, labyrinthine passages bring something new to the “Halo” multiplayer experience: an indoor vehicle paradise, strongly influenced by the Campaign mode, ideal for big team battles. Finally, Foundry is the ultimate Forge map – players can edit every single object in this voluminous industrial warehouse, place stairways, walls, bridges and tunnels to create an [...]

You get the point that LIVE is 5 now, so we won’t mention that LIVE is 5. We WILL mention that Carcassonne is available free for 48 hours. (starting this morning) to download.
We noticed on the forums some people didn’t understand Carcassonne, so Nelson and I thought it’d be a good idea to do a tutorial.
Tony and John called us to say that we didn’t have time to do the video. I wonder how they knew…
We decided that it was worth 90 seconds to explain that Carcassonne is an XBLA version of a popular German strategy board game.
The gist is that you are trying to get points by expanding your territory through roads, castles, monasteries, and farms - while preventing the other players from expanding. It’s sort of like the movie Scarface, but with medieval French farmers.
Each turn you draw one of 71 tiles at random, and place it on [...]

This week marks the fifth anniversary of Xbox LIVE!
When LIVE first launched in November of 2002, things like voice communication, friends lists, and a single name for gamers were new concepts, and tying them all together was absolutely unheard of. One of the problems that I always had as a gamer back in the olden days was knowing what names your friends ended up with for a particular game (curse all of you that have stolen “Malt Liquor” from me!). Now you can easily keep track of your friends to what they’re playing, and can have a seamless voice chat without setting up a separate server or installing extra software.
From its humble beginnings of a few of games in two countries, Xbox LIVE now delivers games, TV shows, movies, and music to over 8 million members in 26 countries and in 9 languages. That is huge for only 5 years.
And to top it all [...]

Monday is upon us again bearing the sweet fruits that are Xbox LIVE Arcade titles. Two new titles grace Arcade this week: Shrek N’ Roll and Screwjumper. This week is extra special though. Why you ask? It’s because Screwjumper marks the 100th Arcade title released. Pretty amazing for a service that’s just over two years old!

Navigate through 16 challenging mazes across four unique environments in Far Far Away’s newest competitive tournament. Test your tilting and rolling skills in Single Player mode, challenge others in Versus mode, or work together with friends and family in 2-player local Co-op mode.
