WOW! (1)there is no red belt in BJJ, a black belt is the hightest belt. (3)The Gracie's are black belts in BJJ. (3)Many fighters have black belts in BJJ but depending on where you got the belt makes a world of difference. Example a guy who trains BJJ with the Gracie's who has a brown belt maybe better then a black belt from another gym. (4)Never Back Down is a way better movie about MMA than redbelt as far as the fight sequences and the story line!

1)My guess is that since Brazilian Jiujitsu is derived from Judo, and Judo's ranking has the red belt as the highest level(I believe 9th and 10 degree). It usually denotes great grandmaster.
2)As said earlier Judo, and I think other Japanese arts may too like Jujutsu, Karate, and Aikido(technically Karate is Okinawan).
3)Doubt it great grandmaster status cannot be achieved through normal rank progression and is reserved for the founders of the art: Carlos, Gastao Jr., Jorge, Helio. Though the red belt might only have been awarded to Carlos and Helio since they are the most known founders of BJJ.
4)Never Back Down, Never Submit, Beyond the Ring

in some really old martial arts red belt was the belt for beginers(instead of white) and also for masters it resembles that beginer becomes master becomes student etc.

1.) I don't know

2.) I have seen a red & white dashed belt as a "higher than black", but I'm not aware of a "only one person" situation as in the movie.

3.) Yes, the guy in the movie was not a Gracie.

4.) Yes, never back down, beyond the ring,

I thought the movie had some good choreography, and had a nice message of principle over money, but overall, it was a huge disappointment.
